The Children of Honduras

The children in Honduras are very intelligent and display a desire to be educated so that they may be able to financially provide for their families and themselves.  There are a select few that desire to become leaders in their communities and country so that they may serve their fellow countrymen.  These last few are the children that Hope For One Child seeks to provide them a superior education.  These children and their parents understand that to create change in their country, there must be highly educated followers of Jesus Christ to bring about the changes necessary to bring Honduras out of the impoverishment, oppression and corruption that now rules their country.

Unfortunately, the public education system in Honduras does not provide the level of education required for the child that has the ability and desire to succeed.  However, there are many Christian private bilingual/multilingual schools that provide the educational opportunities for these children.  The cost per student to attend a private school is high with an average cost of $5,000 USD per academic year.  These costs include tuition, school supplies, simple uniforms, transportation and some other minor costs. Tuition costs do vary from school to school and some private schools do provide partial scholarships so the $5,000 USD is an estimate and HFOC will negotiate with the school on behalf of the student to achieve the lowest possible annual cost.

Hope For One Child has a stringent process for the selection of students before they are accepted into the scholarship program.  Many of the recommendations for children to be evaluated for this program are initiated by missionaries or people that have met the children and their family while on a short term mission trip.  The student, the parents and their pastor are interviewed and a specific number of criteria must be met before acceptance.
